One of my indispensable Mac apps - 1Password - now has a companion on the iPhone. 1Password is a password manager and also has support for secure “notes”. This is a new “native” app, and not the old “bookmarks” solution that was previously used.
I’ve just installed it and synced via secure wireless and all went without a hitch.
Best of all, it’s free! Not sure if it’ll stay free, so you might want to grab it now.
Wordpress for iPhone has been released and is available for download from the iTunes app store.
So, how practical is it to use? Well, I’m using it for this post and, so far, I’m pretty impressed. It doesn’t seem to support the landscape keyboard yet, but I’m sure that will come with a later release.
As you can see from the bottom of this post, you can insert images using the app. In this case, I’ve inserted a screenshot, but you can just as easily insert a photo from your library.
A particularly neat touch is the Safari preview which allows you to see how your post will look with your current theme.
I can see myself using this app a great deal and, best of all, it’s free
I used my iPhone out in the “real world” yesterday for the first time. I was somewhat alarmed to see the battery power remaining indicator going down almost as I watched it!
I wanted to keep the wireless on, as I had access at the time, so I checked the settings and discovered the option highlighted in the screenshot below:
Setting this to off maintains connections to any networks you’ve previously connected to, but stops it “hunting” for new networks. This also helped keep the unit cool. When this option was on, the iPhone was getting pretty hot, presumably because it was constantly scanning.
Welcome to iPhoneUsers.net and thanks for visiting.
The launch of this site coincides with the launch of the 3G iPhone and it’s creation is a result of purchasing one of these stunning examples of technology.
I’ll be providing reviews of iPhone apps from the AppStore, as well hints and tips on using the phone and it’s applications.
So, how was my purchase experience? I ordered the phone from the O2 site in the UK on the Monday before launch. I started the attempt at 8 AM and my first 2 attempts failed. Third time lucky, I guess! I received an order number and O2 took my money, but I received no confirmation email, which got me a little worried. However, by Wednesday, the O2 site was showing my order as having been dispatched, so I was confident it was on the way.
On arriving home on Friday, I found DHL had delivered it next door, so I rushed round to get my shiny new toy.
I then joined the queue of apparently half the planet trying to activate their phone via iTunes. It took around 2 hours to get it completed and I was away.
I wasn’t able to sign up with iTunes until Saturday, so that was the first time I had a chance to check out some of the Apps. NetNewsWire has long been one of my favourites on my MacBook Pro, so this was my first choice. It works extremely well on the iPhone - pretty much as I would’ve expected it to. After signing in, it synced my subscriptions and download the latest updates. Fuss-free and very usable.
I’ve downloaded a bunch of other free apps, so I’ll report back when I’ve had more of a chance to play.
First impressions of the phone? Stunning! Setting up WiFi was a breeze. iTunes synced all my contacts, calendars, email settings etc with no fuss. The push email is superb. I subscribed to a few podcasts via iTunes, synced the phone again and everything was then available on the phone ready to use. The user interface is a joy to use. I’m still getting used to the keyboard, but I’ll get there! This is a keeper.
Do you have a 3g iPhone? Thinking of getting one?
